In November, 2019 my buddy Bryon Howard and I decided that we were going actually commit to something we’ve been talking about for years. To compete in the Race To Alaska – a 750 mile race up the inside passage from Port Townsend, WA to Ketchikan, Alaska. And, we thought it would be fun to produce a documentary about our race and preparation.
So – long story short: we produced 2 episodes of the documentary which included a couple of really cool winter training days as the snow started to fall in the Rockies. Then I applied to enter the race and the race director requested evidence that our boat “Special K” was sea worthy.

After lengthy discussions with Bryon about our winter schedules, I decided that taking the time and required massive efforts to drive all the way out to Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island to get some proper sea trials in, just wasn’t going to happen. My new company AlgoLab Capital Management is heating up, and I cannot afford to take the time away right now – and I was even doubtful that I’d be able to make the month or so required to actually compete in the race in June.
So – we cancelled our plans. For now.
But the two videos we made are super cool! So enjoy!!!
