I’m back from Ironman Coeur d’Alene – Both Helen and I had great races. I missed a Hawaii qualifying slot by about 40 minutes despite a top 14% age group finish time. After Ironman, we took off for a 5 day kayaking/camping trip through the Broken island chain off the west coast of Vancouver Island with some good friends of ours and our kids.

The full Ironman Coeur d’Alene race report with photos is here:

Before I left for Ironman, I ordered all my steel and parts so they would be here when I returned, so I’m ready to get started on the fabrication of the new TCR1. Ben Eadie has incredibly helpful by re-drawing/engineering the TCR1 in a decent CAD program and is producing scale drawings for me to use during the fabrication. Unfortunately, Time is super tight! To start with, I need to start my Ironman Canada training now, I have a 500km two day ultra cycling trip planned for early next week, we head out to Victoria to watch my son Cody compete in the Canadian National Diving championships for 5 days the week following, then after only 7 days at home, Helen and I head out to the Oregon coast for 10 days of cycling/training. When we get back from Oregon, I have two days at home, then we’re at the cabin in Montana for a week, then it’s Ironman Canada at the end of August. Where did the summer go!!!

So basically, between now and September, I will have only about a week to work on the new build! I’m falling behind schedule. Fortunately my training is light during the winter, so I will have much more time to work on the HPV then – but it’s really difficult to test drive anything when there’s 2 feet of fresh snow on the ground! The one advantage I have with the stability of the trike configuration is the ability to ride it in crappy weather – especially if I can get a fairing on it.
