May 2, 2002 (pre trip)
Finally a warm day. Well, relatively warm. But still windy as all hell.
Calgary might not be the ideal training city. We complain about the weather mostly. In the spring when it isn’t snowing it’s friggin windy. In the summer when it isn’t snowing it’s friggin windy. In the fall when it isn’t snowing it’s friggin windy. It doesn’t get very windy in the winter.
But, training in Calgary has some redeeming qualities. A two hour bike ride west and I’m IN the mountains. My 5 hour ride today was exhilarating. I headed west out past Bragg Creek into to Kananaskis Country to where the Highwood pass starts. The road is still closed for wild life crossing until May 15, so there was no traffic and the scenery was fantastic.
